The Negros Oriental PNP Provincial command is now maximizing the Kontra Droga, Kontra Boga and Bilang Boga campaign provincewide, Senior Supt. Augusto Marquez Jr., provincial police director, said.
He admitted that one of the problems in some areas of Negros Oriental is the presence of loose firearms, some of which are being used for crimes.
The campaign also aims to issue license to unregistered firearms in the province. In support of the campaign, amnesty for firearms registration will start on October 1 through the FEASAGS office.
During his recent visit, PNP Regional Director Lani-o Nerez emphasized the seriousness of the campaign. He said the Kontra Droga, Kontra Boga and Bilang Boga campaign is already part of the preparation of the PNP for the 2010 elections.
Marquez said the bloody incident between the groups of Pulahan and Malacañang Action Combat Force in Kalamtukan, Bayawan City , also discovered several loose firearms. Other criminal incidents in the province have also indicated the presence of loose firearms, he said.
The Kontra Droga campaign is also emphasized because it has always been a perennial problem that has affected students and professionals. The use of illegal drugs is also identified as one the reasons for criminal offenses and incidents of petty crimes in the province.
The recent report of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Negros Oriental states that Dumaguete City is still on the top of the lists of those with the highest problems on illegal drugs.
The Task Force 24, a group consisting different law enforcement agencies , is monitoring the low-cost housing areas in Dumaguete after receiving reports that some areas have became drop-off points for suppliers from other areas.*MA
