A resolution requesting all principals of public and private high schools through the Department of Education to encourage all high school students who will be 18 on or before May 10, 2010 to register with the Commission on Elections, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
The resolution proposed by Councilor Jocelle Bapata-Sigue and boy councilor Ben Joseph Harder said there are high school students who are 18 years old and above who are not yet registered voters.
It said that under the Constitution and Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code, every citizen of the Philippines, not otherwise disqualified by law, 18 years or over, and has resided in the Philippines for at least one year and in the city or municipality where they propose to vote for at least six months immediately preceding the election, may be registered as a voter.
Meanwhile, the SP also approved a resolution asking the Philippine Association of Civil Registrars, Philippine Association of Civil Registrars National, and the National Statistics Office to furnish the SP copies of all pertinent documents on the conduct of the national government's simplification of the local registry documents through the issuance of security paper (SECPA).
The resolution authored by Councilors Alex Paglumotan and Al Victor Espino said R.A. 9460 Series of 2007 will strengthen the system of management and administration of archival records and establishing for the purpose the national archives of the Philippines .
It said The City Civil Registry Computerization Program (And Simplification of Civil Registry Services Through the use of Security Paper in the Civil Registry Documents) is pending in the SP for amendment.*CGS
