Zayco says 15 mayors, 2 solons
in Negros expected to back Gibo
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday said 15 out of 31 mayors and two congressmen in Negros Occidental are members of the Lakas-KAMPI-CMD and are expected to support the party's standard bearer, Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

Zayco, who chairs the Lakas-KAMPI-CMD in Negros Occidental, said his support for Teordoro's bid goes without saying, being a member of the party.

Teodoro, who was in Bacolod City Wednesday, said he is looking at the support of local government leaders as a very strong marketing arm for his campaign.

Antique Gov. Sally Zaldivar Perez, chair of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council, Wednesday said 65 governors have endorsed the presidential bid of Teodoro so far.

Zayco said he was asked by the Lakas-KAMPI-CMD to run for governor of Negros Occidental but he told them he was not interested, as he wants to return to being mayor of Kabankalan City .

The governor had earlier said he would support the gubernatorial bid of Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr., a member of the Nationalist People's Coalition who is running as the provincial standard bearer of the United Negros Alliance.

UNA is a coalition of various political parties, of which Zayco is a member.

Zayco said it was premature for the Lakas-KAMPI-CMD to start organizing on the local level as the party at this time is focusing on concerns at the national level.

Meanwhile, Zayco said that if Rep. Genaro Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6 th District) is chosen to be the vice gubernatorial candidate of UNA he will support his bid.*CPG
