I’ll spend the Holy Week with his family taking a summer outing anywhere within Negros. This is the only time I could be together with my family since I won’t be working and the children are off from school.

As Easter takes place with church activities, egg hunts, bunny costumes and all that. I’ll be spending it with my husband quietly at home. We will be very reflective on how Jesus triumphed despite mockery and betrayal. We will re-learn our Bible lessons, too.

This Easter, I will be enjoying a day out with my family at the beach. We will be celebrating God’s unselfish and sacrificial love through attending mass. Also, Easter is an opportunity for me to give back to Him all the glory he deserves. This Sunday, it is Happy Easter, and, yes, summer fun at the beach!

An outdoor activity is something I consider relaxing and soothing, especially after being tied down with work for long hours or doing school assignments and projects. My high school friends and I have agreed to the proposal of Keziah (a high school pal), that we engage in a highland activity to update each other with what has happened to us since we graduated from high school. Of course, we will be as crazy as we used to be but we’ll do things in a wholesome and decent way — no hard liquors, no smoking, no public display of affection.

A special occasion deserves no less but to be spent with family and friends. As we celebrate Easter, it is also high time to relax and be one with nature. Today, I’ll be meeting my long-lost cousin whom I haven’t spent quality time with for quite some time now. Where else but in a city whose laid back charm attracts me the most- La Carlota. It is, indeed, Easter. Christ has risen and saved mankind from eternal damnation, redeemed lives of many and sprinkled seeds of hope and love on earth. Yes, it is Easter, another good time for meeting long gone family members, catch up and celebrate relationships. Happy Easter!

As Christ proved his worth as son of God and King of all Kings today, I, together with husband and five-month old baby girl Nikki Ann Jun will travel way far to La Castellana to spend it with my husband’s family. There, I will be very reflective and serene with nature’s stillness. Thank God it is Easter. It is a manifestation that no matter how tough time gets, there would always be new beginnings and happy endings.

I’m spending my Easter with God as I believe he was resurrected on this day. It is a very fulfilling experience to welcome the risen Christ during the dawn of Sunday by attending the Sunrise Service. It’s better to endure what many consider as ‘boredom’, being in the midst of the service and celebrate Jesus Christ than stay wide awake and old than go on outings and trips and take the meaning of Easter for granted. My Sunday doesn’t end with the service. I am spending the rest of the day’s moments in sanctity and knitting in my mind and heart that my Savior is alive today and forever.

I had an earlier ‘Holy Week’ this year as I prepared for the school’s Commencement Exercises. It was tough. Very though, actually. It’s Easter and I’ll be enjoying the comfort of my home. I’ll try to unwind and regain energy. So while others spend it elsewhere, I’ll be on my couch and enjoy a movie or two, or three, or, probably more. It’s Easter Day at home, free from worries and stress.

While I am not a frequent church goer, this Sunday, I will worship, pray and thank Him for what He has done to our lives).

This Easter, I’ll deviate from the usual beach getaway, hotel or restaurant buffet to celebrate Christ’s triumph over sin and death. I think the worldwide financial crisis is timely and sufficient enough reason to spend more time at home with my family and rethink about Easter’s message of thanksgiving and value for life. This Easter will be a time for my family to celebrate life and the blessings we continually receive.
All Is Well
Someone suggested a song for Resurrection Sunday 2009 in our church — song is entitled I Will Rise. I immediately searched the web for its lyrics, writer, purpose and even the Biblical truth surrounding it. Indeed, it is a song of hope, victory and confidence for eternity as a believer in the resurrected Christ. The song goes like this:
There’s a peace I’ve come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There’s an anchor for my soul
I can say “It is well”
Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise, I will rise
There’s a day that’s drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes
Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise, I will rise
And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
”Worthy is the Lamb”
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
”Worthy is the Lamb”
And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
”Worthy is the Lamb”
And I hear the cry of every longing heart,
”Worthy is the Lamb”
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles’ wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise, I will rise.
The song brings comfort to the hardest of times. There rings an idea of hope and confidence in what Jesus did. When even the last enemy called death is overwhelmed, what else could bring you more confidence? That’s the power of the resurrection of Jesus.
We have a Savior and a God that has defeated death. If we are believers and followers of him, then we have victory over it as well in Him, in what He made us to be. He did make us alive, and even though all of us one day will say good-bye to our earthly bodies, we have the assurance and hope that we will rise when He calls our name.
The last book of the Bible, the book of Revelations is a book of conquest! He has won! He is worthy! He is in control. We see in Chapters 4 and 5, angels and all creatures gathered around the throne of God in celebration, singing in a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb.’ That’s a powerful hope and destiny — we will join those angels, and we will stand before the throne of our God and our risen Savior ALIVE forever and ever! Only an Amen and a breath of Hope can be its fruit. When you and I hear this promise from God’s Word, we immediately thank God that Jesus is alive -- that Jesus is in control and that all our fears can be banished in His Name.
That’s the reason why I have as a personal crusade to call people to be followers of Jesus. To call kids, the youth, men and women to come to follow Jesus. He makes everything right. He makes everything “well with our souls”. This world could promise everything but still could leave us hanging.
For Jesus it is just the opposite. When He declares something, it is good as final … in fact it is! He said, “he will die and rise again!” Well, He did!
Will you trust your life today and eternity tomorrow to Jesus now? Pray … “God I surrender all to you. I turn away from sin. I repent. I believe you died for my sins and rose for me to live for you, Lord Jesus. In the midst of any conflict, fear or defeat, I can now declare “I will Arise”; “all is well with my soul”; “hallelujah”; “worthy is the Lamb”.
The Resurrection of Jesus causes you and I to worship Him. When we do, worry is conquered, fear is halted, and faith has taken its place in our lives. All is well!
- “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever [see Revelations 1:17, 18]!
