Another art gallery is actively showcasing the richness of the arts and cultural heritage of Negros.
The family-run Salvarita Art Gallery at Lacson Street started doing its share early this year in developing and nurturing art collaboration with the people in Negros island and beyond. It is also committed to help discover talents in the arts and serve as a playground for art workshops for children and sessions for adults as it also and welcomes proposals from different individuals and organizations.
The Salvarita artists are led by Roger, father of three creative boys, who is known for his portraits of the beautiful women of Negros and also impressionistic works of ancestral houses of the island that marked a legacy of Spanish occupation catering to the “Parisian lives” of the people. Some of his works depicts sugarcane field workers under the afternoon sun — a testimonial to the bittersweet history of the hacienda system.
Roger is a pioneering member of the Art Association of Bacolod. His journey has led him to work in advertising and publishing. He haso contributed in the history of classic cinema billboard paintings as a cinema painter which brought to enhancement on his skill in portraiture and figure painting. He is still commissioned for portrait paintings and mural works in public and private institutions and individuals.
The eldest son, Rianne Dawn Salvarita, finished Fine Arts major in Painting at La Consolacion College. In contrast to his father’s works, he ventures more into the surreal-metaphysical works influenced by European artists in the 30s. His ingenuity provides him the ability to fuse classical approach in painting while working on a modern piece. He had mounted exhibitions in Manila and Bacolod and was included in a coffee table art book that also included his father’s works.
The youngest of the three, Razceljan Luiz, has the eccentric-expressionistic-experimental streak reflected in his works . He studied Journalism and Photography at Silliman University in Dumaguete where he spent a decade nurturing his artful life. He has led and organized a number of art exhibitions and had taken role in engaging the young people and community to be more aware in the beauty of all creation and through his talent in painting and photography, he depicts all the “the good, the holy, and beautiful.” He lives periodically in Ubud – the creative center of the island of Bali in Indonesia.
These young artists have won many art contest awards during their grade and high school days, a feat that has made them, their family and schools proud. .
Yulee Adan, the second son, had been a national awardee in a children’s art competition Guhit Bulilit that eventually sponsored his college study and graduated from the University of St. La Salle.
Start ‘Em Young
For the Salvarita boys, there is truth to the statement, “Plant the seed of creativity, beauty, freedom and love to a child at a very young age.” They had been exposed in crayons, oil and acrylic paints, watercolor painting, creative endeavors and nature beauty appreciation when they were small. Such influential exposure is something they want to share with children to develop their creative gifts. They consider the mentoring skills of their mother, Glee, an ETCS 1 teacher, a great gift int heir development as artists.
The Salvarita Art Gallery will offer art courses on basic and advance drawings; watercolor painting; sculpture and new media arts; children’s art workshop, including the young Master Painter class, animation and manga art and decorative art. The workshops will be highlighted by an art exhibition.
This is our contribution to an artful Life in Bacolod and beyond, the Salvaritas say, as they stresss that creativity is part of their lives and their gallery has the talent and capability in “creating artful experience” to everyone. “Let us all live a bright and colorful Life in beauty and Love. Open your he[ART] and get out of the box now. Be an Artful citizen,” they added. Photos & Text by Artpaix Pilipinas
