YOUNG LIVES

Literacy is a right of individuals. Education helps them observe this right and good quality education is one that equips pupils and students with skills for further  learning and the improvement of their lives.

Literacy is a cycle. Parents who know how to read and write send their children to school.  These children will do the same when they have their own offspring.

Literate people have better access to educational and learning opportunities. This brings spiral effect to the bigger world as literate societies are better equipped to meet the demands of development.

But literacy is not just for children. It is also for adults, many of whom remain unable to read and write. The story below – about an experience in Agoo, La Union, which made the program a UNESCO Confucius Literacy Awardee this year – shows the value of the ability to read and write, no matter how old or young a person is.
