Coal plant eyed for Ceneco area
PEDC says power stable, cheaper

The Global Business Power Corp.,  a member of the Metro Bank Group of Companies, plans to build an 82 megawatt coal power plant somewhere in  the Central Negros Electric Cooperative coverage area in Negros Occidental this year, its president, Arthur Aguilar, said yesterday.

As soon as there are reasonable market conditions, they will build, Aguilar told the DAILY STAR.

Aguilar said the current power reserve in the Visayas is very thin and in three years’ time he sees a shortage of 50 to 60 megawatts.moremoremore

Policeman injured,
companion killed

Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, yesterday ordered a thorough investigation of the shooting and traffic incidents on Friday night  in Binalbagan and Isabela, Negros Occidental that resulted in the death of a civilian, and injuries to six others, including a policeman.

Police Officer 1 Generoso Ellera, who is assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters, is being treated for injuries at a hospital in Bacolod City, while his companion, identified as Rodante Espada, was killed, when the tricycle they were riding was bumped by an Isuzu cargo truck in Sitio Calubihan, Brgy. Camang-Camang, Isabela, Friday night.moremoremore

Actor with roots
in Bacolod dies

Actor Antonello Joseph “AJ” Perez*

TV Actor Antonello Joseph “AJ” Perez, whose father is a Bacoleño, died of multiple head injuries after a car accident yesterday while on his way back to Manila after a provincial show in Dagupan City.

AJ’s aunt, Cynthia Perez-Jereza, accountant of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Negros Occidental, said she received the news about her nephew early morning yesterday and tried to call AJ’s father, Gerardo, her younger brother, but could not reach him. She said she did not believe the news until another sister in Manila called and confirmed it.

Jereza, who was in Cebu for the graduation of her daughter, said AJ was like a son to her and she is updated on all his projects. moremoremore
