Two minors died after eating puffer fish, locally known as “butete,” in Hinigaran, while a 6-year-old child drowned in Talisay City, all in Negros Occidental, during Black Saturday, police records show.

In Victorias City, a store caretaker allegedly shot himself dead while two others who were shot and stabbed in Cadiz City and Manapla, also died on Good Friday.

Luisa Sinatus, 7, and her younger brother, Jemmar, 3, died of poisoning on Saturday in Brgy. Tagda, Hinigaran, after eating “butete (puffer fish)”, that was cooked by their fisherman-neighbor, Joel Guanzon, Bombo Radyo reports said.moremoremore

apprehended in Escalante

The Komiteng Rehiyonal-Negros of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army suffered another setback with the recent arrest of one of its regional intelligence officers in Escalante City, the military and police said.

A combined team of 6th Regional Public Safety Management Battalion and military intelligence operatives, armed with an arrest warrant, apprehended Diro Pancho Sanchez, alias Ka Ariel, alleged by the military to be an intelligence officer of KR-Negros, and the finance and logistic officer of its Northern Negros Front.

Police Supt. Milko Lirazan, 6th RPSB director, yesterday said Sanchez is included in the Armed Forces order of battle among the key cadres of the NPA in Negros. He is facing an arson case before the San Carlos City Regional Trial Court.moremoremore

SP calls for ERC, DOE
probe of Ceneco’s sales contracts

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging the Energy Regulatory Board, National Electrification Commission and Department of Energy to investigate the power sales contracts entered into by the officials of Central Negros Electric Cooperative with certain power suppliers.

In a position paper submitted by Councilor Caesar Distrito, the SP asked that an inquiry be conducted by the concerned agencies on the failure of CENECO management to negotiate with Green Core Geothermal Incorporated, and to establish accountability on the KEPCO-Manta deals.moremoremore
