Batch ’73 led in the Class A division while ’68 and ’71 won in Category B and C departments in the Negros Occidental High School Inter-Class Alumni Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.
Batch ’73 outsmarted President Mariano Tuvilla Cup and 2010 Inter-school Triangular Bowling winner Batch ’82 in 540-517, to claim their 10th crown in 15 years in the NOHS-organized tournament.
Class ’68 took the Class B title over Batch ’70 in the finals, 497-481, while Class ’71 won in bracket C by defeating the younger Batch ’95 in the up-the-ladder finals, 488-442.
Regular starters Hernand Garciniego and Felipe Boy Romero Jr. led the score for Class ’73 with 129 and 115 points, while Edwin Sarcepuedes topscored for the Jean Rodriguez squad with 114.
The other members of the winning team were Jerry Rodrigo, Francis Divinagracia, Jessie Torres, Gene Guanzon, Bert Aragon, Grace Garcia Ong, Grace Zollinger, and Nanette Garciniego.
Class ’73 won first championship in 1998 and another one the following year. After a first runner-up finish in 2000 to 2002, they bagged seven straight consecutive titles from 2003 to 2009. This made them the only grand slam champion in the history of NOHS Annual Bowl Fest and grabbed the 5-feet tall “Pepsi-Cola Perfetual Trophy.”
Batch ’85 anchored by Iran Pielago was second runner-up after being defeated by Class ’82.
Third and fourth runners-up were Glori Edna Libo-on’ Class ’89 and Class ’66 anchored by Edgar Baldonado.
Bracket B champion Class ’68 were led by Nene Gonzales, Cero Cordova, Jun Ilalto, Mitoy Gabayoyo, Mario Villaruz, Eva Kubchand, Neda Artesano and Beth Bandad.
Batch ’84 headed by Deceleen Dumancas and Class ’72 led by Dodoy Soliva were second and third runners-up, while Julian Raca’s Batch ’80 was fourth.
Class ’71 bowlers were triumphant in bracket C department winning over Batch ’95 in the final showdown.
Wearing the colors for the champion team were Leah Uy, Ric Gayares, Jerry Bantilan, Marilyn Martir, Bebot Jocson, Robert Tillaman, Nelson Palma, Lelot Espares, Ed Jara, Thor Familiaran, Reggie Monillo, Nelson Palma, Dennis Corteza, Botoy Placido, Jun Roa, Bernie Guirgen, and Ma. Lina Ramos.
Batch ’95 of Dahneeleine Sait and Class ‘54/56/59 Combined of Jose Garcia were first and second runners-up, while Class ’67 Mavericks by Hernani Lanaza and Batch ’92 by Rizal Labordo and Pritz Posadas were third and fourth.
Rey Boy of Class ’85 and Nelsie Popen of Class ’80 won the master bowler title in the men and women’s division.
The team’s highest single and triple award went to Class ’82 bowlers who recorded a game-high 575 and 1,630 balls.
Individual record holders were Class ’88 Jerico Java in the men’s highest pinning with 94; Hernand Garciniego of Class ’73 and Iran Pielago of Batch ’85 in highest single and triple with 153 and 405 apiece.
Nelsie Popen of Batch ’80 in the women’s highest pinning with 93, and Class ’89 bet Ronella Cordero in highest single and triple with 129 and 320, respectively.*
