killed in rumble: PNP

A misunderstanding over a videoke song led to a rumble at a construction site in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City, at about 11 p.m. Friday which left a construction worker dead and another injured.

Killed was Rolando Parrenas, 29, of Hacienda Puyas 2 in Silay City, Negros Occidental, and employed by the RD Construction, case investigator Police Officer 2 Sherwin Rojas said yesterday.

Parrenas, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

His colleague Cris Osianas, 35, of Brgy. Robles in La Castellana town, was confined at CLMMRH with stab wounds on his right cheek and on his chest, police records showed.

Initial investigation conducted by Rojas and Police Officer 1 Gilbert Alunan, disclosed that Osianas, Parrenas, Gilbert Baldera, 39, of Brgy. Robles, Roger Padilla, 33, of Brgy. Haguimit, La Carlota City and nine other construction workers had a drink at a videoke bar before the rumble happened.

Osianas, Parrenas, Baldera and Padilla allegedly argued on who would sing the song “Katawan” but the commotion was pacified by their companions, Rojas said.

Hours later, the four decided to go back to the construction site at Yakal-Molave Street, where they were temporarily staying, and there, the misunderstanding they had regarding the song was brought up again leading to the rumble, Rojas added.

Station 4 policemen apprehended Baldera and Padilla in a follow-up operation near the Bacolod City Public Cemetery along Burgos Street when they tried to escape after the incident.

Rojas said they could not determine yet who stabbed Parrenas because his cousin, who witnessed the incident, has not given any testimonies as of press time.*APN

7 sex workers
face vagrancy raps

Seven freelance commercial sex workers were charged for violating Article 202 of the Revised Penal Code or vagrancy before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office, the police said yesterday.

The four were apprehended at the Bacolod City downtown area Tuesday last week during a saturation drive conducted by Police Station 1 led by Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz.

Policemen brought them to the Bacolod City Health Office for examination for sexually transmitted diseases, although the result of the examination was not released.

Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo De la Paz, reiterated that there will be no let-up in the campaign against freelance commercial sex workers in the city.

The police has launched a city-wide campaign against freelance commercial sex workers, and those who are employed at videoke and entertainment bars with no pink cards.

At least 65 freelance commercial sex workers have been nabbed since the campaign begun and more than 40 of them have tested positive for STD, police records show.*APN

‘Acebuche to remain
as TMU chief’

Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo De La Paz, denied Saturday that Traffic Management Unit head Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche will be relieved from his post.

De la Paz was reacting to several media reports, not from the DAILY STAR, that Acebuche will be removed as TMU chief in October for an unspecified reason.

“I have no plans of relieving him because he is doing well and has several significant accomplishments”, De la Paz said.

“There has been improvements in as far as traffic situation are concerned and I believe that he is the right man for the job”, De la Paz added of Acebuche.

Dismissing the report as pure hearsay, De la Paz said those who are spreading the report of Acebuche’s relief may have an axe to grind against him because of his strict implementation of traffic laws.

Since Acebuche assumed as TMU head on April 15, he has implemented several programs including the strict implementation of the “Anti-Smoking ordinance on public transports” and the “Anti-jay walking ordinance”, police records showed.

Acebuche said he believes the report regarding his relief is just a demolition job of those who have been hurt by the strict implementation of the traffic rules that he had imposed.

He also clarified the reports that he is leaving BCPO and will transfer to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.*APN
