Museum holds writing gab
The Negros Museum in Bacolod City recently gave a writing workshop with New York-based educator Dr. Virginia Cu of the Association of Filipino Teachers in America at its newly opened Museum Café.
The workshop was a mix of creative people from homemakers, bloggers, feature writers, businesswomen, and educators who wanted to go back to writing and/or learn more about writing, a press release from the museum said.
Cu is a trainer of English as a Second Language program for immigrants in New York, USA. Before going to the States, she was a teacher at St. John’s Institute in Bacolod.
Meanwhile, the Negros Museum will launch its Weekend Workshops at the Museum on September 2011, which will offer 3-4 hour sessions on visual arts, performing arts, literature/writing, digital media, photography, dance and other life improvement classes.
During the weekdays there will be Nights at the Museum (Nyts@dMuseum) that will feature local artists in short experimental plays, acoustic performances, and nouveau artistic explorations and collaborations with other Negros artists’ groups, the press release said.

expats’ group meeting
Bacolod City Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson was guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Bacolod Expats' Group on Saturday, at Nature's Village in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, a press release from the group said.
Speaking to the many foreign nationals who have settled in Bacolod and the surrounding areas, the vice mayor delivered a mini “state of the city address” to update the group on developments including business initiatives, tourism, infrastructure, traffic, flood control, housing and relocation of informal settlers, solid waste and environmental protection.
This was followed by a lively open forum where the vice mayor answered many questions the expats had about life in the city, especially on traffic control, the press release said.
This is the second time the foreign community has invited a leading city official to be a guest speaker at their monthly meeting. The group said they found the session very helpful in getting a better understanding of developments in the city.
Sayson added that the exchange of views had been useful, especially as foreign nationals bring in knowledge and experiences from many other countries so had a lot to offer by way of positive suggestions for improving life in the city, the press release added.*

Blood month
recognition held
The Philippine National Red Cross Negros Occidental – Bacolod City Chapter Blood Center held the Blood Donor’s Month Recognition and Awarding Ceremony at Natalia Hall of O Hotel in Bacolod City recently, a press release from organizers said.
The activity recognized the various efforts of different partner organizations and local government units in organizing mobile blood donation and promoting the blood program in its advocacy for quality and safe blood.
The Outstanding Blood Program Award 2010 for City Category was received by Himamaylan City with a total blood collection of 1,984 units; Outstanding Blood Program Award 2010
