wife for ‘illegal recruitment’

A doctor and his wife were arrested by the members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in San Carlos City and Calatrava town, Negros Occidental Tuesday for alleged large scale illegal recruitment and estafa.

Those arrested were identified as Liza Golez Justalero, 33, of San Carlos City, and Dr. Nilo Justalero, 50, of Iloilo City, by CIDG-Negros Occidental head, Chief Insp. Ray Cuanico said yesterday.

The doctor was arrested at about 3:30 p.m. at the Calatrava Municipal Health Office, where he works, while his wife was apprehended in her residence at Newtown Subdivision, Brgy. 1, in San Carlos City an hour later, Cuanico said.moremoremore

Palace condemns
radioman’s killing

Malacañang yesterday condemned the murder of an Iloilo radio blocktimer in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, and assured that the   full force of the law is being applied to swiftly identify and apprehend his killers.

Niel Jimena, 42, who was on board a motorcycle, was shot in the back by two men on board another bike in a chase in EB Magalona, Monday night.

The killing of Jimena, believed to have been perpetrated by a gun-for-hire, may have been related to his job, although the drug-related angle has not been ruled out, Supt. Samuel Mina, Task Force 3rd District chief, said yesterday.moremoremore

The six Dragon Boat champions from Barangay Latasan, EB Magalona, received more financial rewards and praises from Negrenses proud of their success at the Panaad Sports Stadium in Bacolod City yesterday afternoon.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan handed the six rowers a resolution lauding them for winning five gold and two silver medals in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championship in Tampa, Florida, early this month.

Alvarez said the 16 members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are allocating P5,000 each for a total of P80,000 to be given to the six Negrense champions.
