Two young men suspected of being members of the street gang, Bloods, were arrested shortly after midnight Monday after three minors believed to be members of the rival gang, Crips, were shot.

The victims, aged 15, 16 and 17, and all males, were rushed to the hospital.

Police investigation showed that one of them had a gunshot wound on his abdomen, another on his right arm, but the injury of the third could not yet be ascertained.

The suspects were identified as Ricky Zamora Oliveros, 22, single, of Barangay Camanjac, and Ralph Ryan Valencia, 19, single, of Barangay Daro, all in Dumaguete City.

Insp. Romulo Lledo of the Dumaguete police said at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, the police station received a call about a shooting incident at San Juan Street in downtown Dumaguete.

A third suspect was also brought to the police station for questioning, the police said.

Oliveros and Valencia claimed to be members of the Bloods gang and that the shooting incident was in retaliation for at least two previous shooting attempts on them by alleged Crips members.

The police, however, did not recover any firearm from Oliveros or Valencia.

This is the second shooting incident recently due to what many believe to be a resurgence of the “gang war” in Dumaguete. Lledo, however, declined to comment on this, saying police are still conducting further investigation.

During the weekend, a shooting incident also took place near a gasoline station in Tabuc-tubig, Dumaguete, where a minor was also injured and police arrested a suspect during hot pursuit operations.*JFP
