“Arrest all policemen, traffic aides and other law enforcers riding on motorcycles without helmets”.
The order came from Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz to Bacolod City Traffic Management Unit head Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche yesterday following complaints from citizens that policemen, traffic aides and other law enforcers seen riding on motorcycles without helmets are not being arrested.
De la Paz said that, as law enforcers, they should set examples by following traffic rules. There have been several motorcycle-related accidents where policemen were seriously injured because they had no helmets on.
This month alone, two policemen were killed in motorcycle-related accidents in Bacolod and Bago cities, police records show.
“We, as law enforcers, should serve as examples because we are the implementors of the law,” de la Paz said.
“We also appeal to the residents to report if they see policemen, traffic enforcers and other law enforcers on motorcycles with no helmets so they will be meted appropriate penalties,” he added.
The police will sustain this drive to save lives because accidents can be prevented if people follow traffic rules and regulations and observe defensive driving, he said.
Acebuche said he has instructed his personnel to arrest law enforcers driving or riding their motorcycles, who are not wearing their helmets.
Acebcuhe also said they will field additional personnel to be on duty 24 hours a day at the flyover area for the opening of the nearby north terminal in Brgy. Bata Saturday.*APN
