Impeachment of Corona

Three of the seven congressmen of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City yesterday said they joined their colleagues in the Lower House in signing a resolution to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

The three who said they are supporting the impeachment bid are Rep. Julio Ledesma III (1st District), Rep. Alfredo Marañon (2nd District) and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (3rd District).

Rep. Anthony Golez (Bacolod), Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (4th District), Rep. Ignacio Arroyo (5th District) and Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (6th District) did not respond to the DAILY STAR’s text messages and calls yesterday.moremoremore

Ex-RPA man charged
for slay of cop

Murder charges were filed before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday against an alleged former member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade and a “John Doe” in relation to the fatal shooting of a policeman in the city last month.

Charged were Benjie Trabajada Jalandoni of Brgy. Camansi in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. and his unidentified companion, City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday.

De la Paz said they presented the picture of Jalandoni, a former security guard, to several witnesses and they positively identified him as the triggerman who shot and killed Police Officer 3 Rolando Malate of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group on November 24 at the junction of Jovita and Hernaez Streets, in Bacolod.moremoremore

DAR beefs up Neg. Occ.
forces to boost CARPer

The Department of Agrarian Reform yesterday installed a special director for Negros Occidental and two officials to head its southern and northern operations.

This is part of a move to boost the implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program extension with reform (CARPer) law in Negros Occidental that is now facing a huge distribution backlog, DAR regional director Alexis Arsenal said.

Elmo Banares assumed the post of DAR special director for operations in Negros Occidental,  Arsenal said.moremoremore
