Suspected robber
slain in city, too
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

An alleged notorious robber and snatcher was killed by his foes at about 4 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. 2 Bacolod City.

The victim was identified as Joel Arnaiz, alias “Sidewalk”, 18, of Purok Lubi in Brgy. 3, Bacolod by Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Lester Leada.

Arnaiz who sustained gunshot wounds on his chest and back was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Investigation showed that Arnaiz was on his way to the main road from Purok Lubi in Brgy. 2 when the suspects “alias Jordan”, “alias Pugak” and their unidentified companion blocked his way.

Witnesses told the police that one of them shot Arnaiz with a .38 caliber revolver and fled, Leada said.

Personal grudge is being eyed in the shooting of Arnaiz, as his group and that of the suspects are allegedly archrivals. Arnaiz is a notorious robber and snatcher in the area of Brgy. 2 and other areas, he also said.

Leada added that some of the cases of Arnaiz had been filed when he was still a minor.

Former Station 2 commander and now Bacolod City Police Operations Branch head, Chief Insp. Noel Polines, said Arnaiz was referred to the Social Development Center several times but often escaped.

Polines said that with Arnaiz's death, the robbery and theft incidents in Brgy. 2 and its neighboring areas will be minimized.

Ma. Luz Tolentino, Arnaiz's aunt, told RMN Bacolod that she last saw her nephew Monday night and was only informed that he was dead yesterday.

A pursuit operation against the suspects in the killing of Arnaiz was launched yesterday by Station 2 policemen.*APN
