PVO hires 3 new vets

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental hired three more veterinarians to help strategize, implement, and provide technical support to the Negros First livestock development program of the province, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday.

Dr. Cherryll Castañeda, 25, earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños in 2008. She was a resident veterinarian of Ole Veterinary Hospital in Cainta, Rizal, before her appointment with the province.

Castañeda conducted lectures on veterinary concepts in pathology, food hygiene, and epidemiology. She just finished the first semester of her master’s degree in Molecular Medicine at St. Luke’s College of Medicine.

Castañeda hails from La Granja, La Carlota City. She will be supervising the Feed and Meat Laboratory and will examine feeds nutrition and analysis.

From Cauayan town, Negros Occidental, Dr. Ma. Regina Arquiza, 27, was one of the Pagkaon scholars of the late Gov. Josesph Marañon. She was also recognized as the Student with Outstanding Performance for two years.

She earned her degree from the Aklan State University. Arquiza is an expert in carabao management production and medicine. She will be handling the production and extension methodology of carabao and swine.

Dr. Saturnino Dayanan, 24, another Pagkaon scholar of the province graduated last year from West Visayas State University. His expertise includes milk production, breeding, diagnosis of livestock diseases, and background on paddock management.

He currently oversees the Sagay Dairy Farm.

Decena said Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. personally picked the three applicants knowing that two of them are provincial scholars and they all came from Negros Occidental. Apart from that, they have the expertise and capacity to handle their assignments, he added.

Other PVO  veterinarians are Dr. Placeda Lemana, Dr. Abelardo Mondia, and Dr. Narissa Lemoncito.*LTG
