The Department of Science and Technology has announced the names of the students who passed the 2011 Philippine Science High School System National Competitive Examination.

Seven students from Dumaguete City are among the 92 candidates from Central Visayas who passed the examination.

They are Azel Amada, Jude Martin Amiscaray, Floreca Bascones, Lara Fe Ferrolino, Crismario Lesandro Saad, Giancarlo Dominador Sanglay and Junelie Anthony Velonta.

Around 20,233 hopefuls took the PSHS examination held Nov. 6, 2010 nationwide, but only 1,114 applicants passed the one-step screening.

Passers are entitled to study at PSHS on a free scholarship  with emphasis on subjects pertaining to science, with the goal of preparing students for careers in science and technology.

Aside from free tuition, PSHS scholars will also enjoy free loan of textbooks and a monthly stipend, while students who belong to low-income groups are given uniform, transportation and living allowances.*PIA
