A supplemental position paper was filed by the Negros Labor Coalition yesterday before the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board-Region 6.

The paper was in support of the petition for a P97 wage hike filed by the Trade Union of Filipino Workers-Negros Occidental chapter in January, RTWPB labor representative, Wennie Sancho, said.

NLAC and the rest of the labor sectors are optimistic that a “more realistic wage decision” will be facilitated by the RTWPB smoothly and with expediency, Sancho said.

New agri project
to help fisherfolk

Poor fisherfolk in the province will receive livelihood assistance this year under the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Agri-Pinoy Fisheries Projects amounting to P600,000, a government press release said.

BFAR Chief Carlito Delfin said hundreds of fisherfolk, fish pond operators and cooperative associations will receive livelihood projects in coordination with the LGUs, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and other partners.

Among the projects lined up are upland tilapia culture with a budget of P175,000, artificial reef installation P114,330, solar salt making in plastics P31,310 and milkfish fingerlings distribution P112,000.

SSS sends inspectors
to construction sites

The Social Security System has sent field inspectors to construction sites and other high-risk work areas to check the employment status of workers and ensure their protection from work-related accidents as provided by law, SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Emilio de Quiros Jr. said in a press release.

SSS account officers have been directed to make a headcount and look into the payroll of contractors and sub-contractors to make sure that workers have SSS coverage.

"We are being proactive because construction workers are vulnerable," De Quiros said.
