Brainsbee ni Albee kicks off
in Neg. Occ. 3rd district today
Hundreds of elementary pupils and high school students of Negros Occidental’s Third District will join Brainsbee Ni Albee Sa District 3, Year 2 that kicks off with simultaneous contests in spelling, math and science in selected barangays today, a press release from organizers said.
The opening salvo is at 9 a.m. at Barangay E. Lizares in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Other venues for the first barangay round of Brainsbee are Barangay 1, Silay; Barangay 1, Victorias; Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia; and Barangay Alacaygan, E.B. Magalona, the press release said.
At 2 p.m. today, contests will start in Barangay 2 of Silay; Barangay Dos Hermanas of Talisay; Barangay 2 of Victorias; Barangay Zone 1 of Murcia; and Barangay Nanca of E. B. Magalona.
The second year for Brainsbee is sponsored by the Office of Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), in cooperation with the Department of Education, and local government units of the Third District.
In 2009, John Rhenan Dunlao, a high school senior at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Victorias was the high school category district champion, while Ryan Jay Matulac, Grade 6 pupil of St. Francis of Assisi School in E.B. Magalona was the elementary category district champion, the press release said.
Each received cash prizes and are now enjoying scholarship grants – Dunlao at the University of St. La Salle and Matulac at Don Bosco Technical Institute.
Benitez said Brainsbee has brought the traditional school-based quiz bee to the grassroots level, giving everyone the chance to participate and getting as many sectors of the community involved.
