Emotional pressure will not stop the administration of justice, Senator Sergio Osmeña said yesterday.
Osmeña, who joined the 13th Pasidungog Festival of Talisay City, said the suicide of former Armed Forces Chief of Staff and Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes will not stop the Senate investigation of military corruption “that went on until the last days of Gloria Arroyo as president.”
Because so many generals and top military officers are being investigated in the Senate for corruption, they can not stop their inquiry because they need to plug the holes, Osmeña also said.
“The Filipino people will never forgive us if we whitewash this, it’s their money and it’s theirs soldiers who are affected,” he said.
“The soldiers in the field affected by corruption at the top will also never forgive us…they are happy the inquiry is being conducted,” he added.
He said that even if Carlos Garcia, former Armed Forces of the Philippines comptroller, also commits suicide tomorrow, that will not stop the Senate investigation.
It is the Senate’s mandate to determine what the truth is and see to the punishment of those who violated the law, Osmeña said.
“If you commit suicide I will pray for your soul and hope you make peace with your Maker, and your family will be comforted in their grief , but in no way will it stop any investigation and or trial,” he added.*CPG
