The Department of Agriculture projects a surplus in supply of broilers nationwide for the first semester of this year, a government press release said.
Forecast data released yesterday by the DA’s Bureau of Agricultural Statistics show broiler supply for the reference period will likely exceed demand by nearly 240 metric tons.
BAS made this most-likely-scenario forecast as its projections show nationwide broiler supply will reach some 390,976 MTs during the reference period.
Such supply covers local production, imports and beginning frozen inventory.
Nationwide broiler demand for the same period will likely hit 390,738 MTs only, BAS noted.
Data also show that the broiler supply volume that BAS forecasts for 2011’s first six months is 7.46 percent higher than last year's 363,829 MTs.
Projected broiler demand for 2011’s first semester is also almost eight percent more than the 362,243-MT demand volume in 2010.
BAS’ forecast data likewise show Philippine broiler production for January to June 2011 will likely cover almost 320 million live birds.
This projected output is nearly 10 percent more than the 290.84 million live birds produced in the country in 2010.
Data also show the forecast for broiler supply during 2011’s first semester ranges from a low of 344,592 MTs to a high of 437,361 MTs.
Projected demand for the same period ranges from 359,791 MTs to 421,685 MTs.
For broiler production during the same period. BAS’ forecast ranges from about 295 million birds to nearly 344 million birds, the press release said.*
