apprehended

Two alleged drug pushers were arrested by the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Group in a buy-bust operation at about 5:30 p.m. Monday in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City.

City police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, yesterday identified those arrested as Marlon Cawili, “alias Ugang”, 26, and Mark Lenon Lozada, 28, both of Purok Greenfield in Brgy. Tangub.

Cawili was apprehended by the team led by Senior Insp. Joemarie Occeño when he gave an undetermined quantity of suspected dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops to one of the policemen who acted as poseur-buyer, in exchange for P400. An additional P1,450 in cash was recovered from Cawili when operatives frisked him, police records showed.

Lozada was arrested while in the act of wrapping an undetermined amount of suspected dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops with a piece of bond paper at a nearby residence.

De la Paz said that operatives conducted several days of surveillance against Cawili before the buy-bust, on information from a concerned citizen that he is allegedly selling marijuana to students of a high school in Brgy. Tangub.

De la Paz said that the arrest of the two suspects shows that there is no let-up in campaign against illegal drugs. They are now more focused on putting the pushers behind bars and saving illegal drug users, he added.*APN

Paraphernalia for ‘shabu’
seized from man in raid

The police in La Carlota City arrested a drug suspect in a raid conducted at about 11:30 a.m. Monday at Canson Subdivision, in Brgy. 2, a press release from the La Carlota PNP under Supt David Cachumbo Jr., said.

Operatives searched the house of Christian Talapiero alias “Yan Yan,” by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Francisco Rodriguez of Branch 63, for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Seized were one tooter with residue of suspected shabu, 53 transparent sachets with residue of the banned substance, three cut straws and one aluminum foil with alleged shabu residue, the press release said.

Talapiero and the confiscated items were brought to the police crime laboratory in Bacolod City for examination and a case for violation of the drugs law is being prepared against the suspect, the press release added.

Meanwhile, Silay policemen led by Supt. Jerry Bartolome endorsed Feliciano Villaruel, 46, of Hda. Lacson, Naga 2, Brgy. Bagtic in Silay who was caught engaging in the illegal numbers game called “jai-alai, “ a Silay PNP press release said.

Villaruel was arrested at about 5 p.m. Sunday in front of the Bacolod-Silay airport.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were 35 tipsters with codename “Jai-alai Speed,” 11 tally sheets with the name “Meridian Vista Gaming Corporation,” a cellphone with accessories, 23 tally stubs with number combinations, two ballpens, a calculator, and P266 in bet money, the press release added.*
