OWWA 6 to help intensify
campaign vs. drug couriers

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will intensify its anti-drug courier program campaign in its effort to protect the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers, particularly those from Region 6, who are working abroad, a government press release said.

Director Samuel Madrid of the OWWA 6 said that even while they are conducting a regular Pre-departure Orientation Seminar, they will intensify the campaign following the plight of three Filipino overseas workers who have been sentenced to death for their involvement in the illegal trade in China.

He said that PDOs are required for OFWs, to cope with the situation abroad, and more importantly to prevent the possibility of OFWs being recruited illegally.

Creation of Credit Card
Info Bureau eyed

President Benigno Aquino III said that the creation of a Credit Card Information Bureau may solve the numerous complaints against credit card companies exacting high interest rates on credit-card users.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said yesterday that during Aquino’s meeting with the Asian Development Bank Board of Directors, he emphasized the credit responsibility and better identity of credit card holders rather than on tax reduction for credit card holders.

Lacierda said the idea of tax reduction for credit card holders was brought out by one of the ADB Board of Directors during the meeting with Aquino.

‘Hot meat’ confiscated

The Bacolod City government’s Task Force Botagoy confiscated at least 12 kilos of pork without proper label and branding in Brgy. Felisa Sunday.

Police Officer 2 Jet Pirote, TF Botagoy member, said they confiscated the meat from Efren Jaranilla at about 7:28 a.m. when they passed by Purok Kipot in Brgy. Felisa.

Jaranilla claimed that he was not selling the pork, it was to be cooked for a birthday party, Pirote said. The confiscated hot meat was brought to the new slaughter house in Bry, Handumanan, where it was burned, Pirote said.
