‘Agri-tourism growing in
Negros Occidental’

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has recorded 924 agri-tours and 1,875 direct booking to agri-tourism destinations to various organic farms and parks in the province for 2010.

OPA Farmers Information and Technology Services Center manager, Edna Garde, said this shows that the demand for agri-tourism sites in the province is increasing. The agriculture and tourism tandem has proven its worth through their contribution to increase agricultural knowledge and tourism interventions, she added.

One-stop-shop to open
at Bacolod gov’t center

For the first time, the one-stop-shop in processing business permits will be held at the Bacolod City Government Center, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.

“After all, this is one of the reasons why we have the government center. We want to make it a one-stop-shop,” he said.

Leonardia said it was during his first term as mayor when they implemented the one-stop-shop policy at the BAYS Center. The essence is to make it convenient for businesses to have their licenses processed and released as early as possible, he said.

‘Correct Oil Deregulation Law’

The United Negros Drivers-Operators Center Inc. has asked President Benigno Aquino III to study the Oil Deregulation Law so provisions that disadvantage people can be corrected, a press release from the Philippine Information Agency said.

UNDOC secretary general Jessie Ortega said they believe this law is the root of the indiscriminate increase of petroleum product costs in the country.

He said their group is asking that safety nets be put in place in the law to protect the ordinary citizens from the effects of frequent oil price hikes or repeal it if it does not serve its purpose any more.
