There are 146 Damara and Dorper sheep purchased from General Santos City as part of the Negros Occidental provincial government’s livestock program that are expected to arrive in Bacolod City within the first quarter of 2001,  Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena said.

Decena said 10 male sheep cost P10,000 each while the female sheep cost P15,000 each, and  the provincial government is preparing the documents needed for the purchase.

These are all ready-to-breed sheep that will set to Murcia.

He said the sheep breeding program  is  one of the newest ventures of Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr. under his Negros First agenda of stabilizing and improving the livestock industry of the province.

The first beneficiaries of the program will be the Sheep and Goat Association of Negros Occidental, and other local government unit breeding centers, Decena also said.*LTG
