ON NEW YEAR’S DAY
Bayawan dad cheats death

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A city councilor of Bayawan City cheated death on New Year’s Day when the gun used by his assailants conked out and did not fire.

Councilor Victoriano Alabastro was shot by motorcycle riding men in Bayawan City on New Year’s eve but the two suspects fled on foot when the gun did not fire, leaving behind their Kymco motorcycle on the road.

Bayawan City police chief, Maj. Errol Garchitorena, said in an interview that the police is digging into the motive of the foiled attempt on the life of Alabastro who is a lawyer.

He said the angles being looked into include cases he is handling. Garchitorena said Alabastro himself cannot determine the motive.

PNP provincial director, Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, said the Land Transportation Office already has the name of the registered owner of the motorcycle left by the suspect and traced it to a woman who hails from Bacolod City.

Witnesses say the firearm used was a .45 caliber pistol.*JG
