No. 6 most wanted
in Bacolod collared

A teenager tagged as number 6 in the list of the most wanted personalities of Bacolod City Police Office was arrested at the BREDCO port, while he was about to board a fastcraft sea vessel bound for Iloilo at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday.

Station 1 intelligence operative, Police Officer 2 Joshua Barile, identified the one arrested as Michael Victor Anuran, 18, of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental and now a resident of Brgy. 8, Bacolod.

Police recovered from Anuran three empty shells of .38 caliber revolver, a wallet, several identification cards and a photo album showing him holding firearms of different calibers.

Barile said Anuran was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 51 Judge Anita Guanzon-Chua, who denied him bail.

He said Anuran and his companions are the suspects in the killing of a man from Victorias City, in the province in front of the Negros Occidental High School sometime in 2008.

Two of Anuran’s companions had already been arrested earlier, while the other one is still at large. They were also linked to the killing of a barangay tanod at the Bacolod downtown area several years ago, Barile said, adding that they are also verifying if Anuran, who, he said, is the second most wanted personality of Police Station 1, is also connected with the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade.*APN

Driver nabbed for
wearing AFP uniform

Another tricycle driver was jailed on New Year's eve in Bago City, Negros Occidental, after he was caught red-handed wearing an army uniform at a checkpoint Friday afternoon, a press release from the Bago police office said.

Chief Insp. Rico Santotome Jr., of the Bago police, identified the arrested suspect as Romeo Valero, 44, of Crossing Ubay in nearby Pulupandan town, in his press release.

Valero was arrested in a checkpoint in Brgy. Lag-asan, in Bago City, while wearing a Philippine Army uniform that constitutes a violation of Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code, the press release said.

He faces six months in jail once found guilty in court, added Santotome, deputy chief of the Bago City police.

The police is implementing the law to prevent criminals from plying their trade, and civilians are urged to be aware of the illegal act, the press release added.

Meanwhile, the Bago police cited 26 erring motorists for various traffic violations Friday, city police chief, Supt. Melchor Coronel, said yesterday.

The Bago police also impounded 16 motor vehicles for violating the "No Plate, No Travel" policy, Coronel said.

A total of 17 fatalities due to road accidents were recorded in Bago City last year, Coronel said, adding that they have intensified the road safety measures starting this month, to, at least, minimize the number of deaths and injuries involving motorists along the national highway.

He added they will also strictly implement the provisions of Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, beginning today in coordination with the Land Transportation Office.*APN
