The operation of the north bound terminals in Bacolod City early this year is anticipated to impact not only on the city’s tourism industry but also on its transportation industry and on commuters, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday.
Leonardia said the Vallacar Transit has envisioned its terminal to be a modern one that will meet global standards.
This will be a terminal that will cater to tourists because it will have a world-class type of operation which will be implemented as a matter of standard in Bacolod, he said.
It will not just have refreshment areas but also lodging facilities, he added.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said he met with the officials of Vallacar Transit (Ceres) and this month they will hold the groundbreaking for the multi-million terminal beside the Pepsi Cola plant in Brgy. Bata.
Hopefully, the Vallacar and north bound terminals will operate either in March or April, he said. One cannot operate ahead of the other or the business of the other will be affected, he added.
Sayson said the implementation of the terminals was delayed because they had to wait for the final plan on the flyover project as the northbound and the Ceres terminals will be affected by it.
Leonardia said they expect the two terminals to go full-blast early this year.
He said the construction of the flyover will also start soon.
In coordination with the office of Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez Jr., City Administrator Roger Balo had facilitated the endorsement of the project by the Regional Development Council, Leonardia said.
He also said that long before that, the flyover project already had the endorsement of the RDC since the Department of Public Works and Highways cannot go ahead with the implementation of the project without it.
Leonardia said they also want to set up another terminal in the south in this administration.
“To decongest Bacolod, and anticipating the fast growth of the city, we must see to it that terminals are located in the boundaries of Bacolod, as in other major cities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sayson said a committee is still studying the request of the Talisay-bound jeepneys to be allowed to enter Bacolod when the terminals start to operate.*CGS
