Cash grants were given to 1,224 indigent beneficiaries in Bacolod City recently under the P4.3-million allocation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the first quarter of 2011, through the state’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, a government press release said.
The first batch of beneficiaries were indigent residents from Sum-ag, Singcang-Airport, Tangub, Taculing and Banago.


‘Certified seeds to improve
Region 6 rice production’
The Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas is optimistic that using certified seeds among farming villages will boost the region’s rice yield this year, a government press release said.
Manuel Olanday, the DA's regional Agri-Pinoy Rice program coordinator, said certified seeds have been proven to increase rice yields of farmers in some provinces.
However, he said the DA will soon stop subsidizing the provision of certified seeds to farmers in the country.

Renew permits
The Negros Occidental National Food Authority is calling all business owners in grain retailing to prepare and process their business permit renewal, Rodrigo Macaya, senior enforcement and inspection officer said recently.
January is scheduled for the permit renewal of grain retailers in the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Victorias, and Manapla, Macaya said. Business owners have to bring their 2010 income tax return which is a requirement for business permit renewal, he added.
