P4.3M in cash grants
given to poor families

Cash grants were given to 1,224 indigent beneficiaries in Bacolod City recently under the P4.3-million allocation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development for the first quarter of 2011, through the state’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, a government press release said.

The first batch of beneficiaries were indigent residents from Sum-ag, Singcang-Airport, Tangub, Taculing and Banago.

Another batch of 4Ps recipients came from Barangays; Villamonte, Mandalagan, Alangilan, Brgy. 1,2 and 3,10,14, Estefania, 35 and 16,Felisa, Vista Algere, Mansilingan, Cabug, Punta Taytay, Alijis, Handumanan, 40, 39 and Pahanocoy.

Recipients of the 4Ps program will receive P1,400 with P500 for health and nutrition; P300 per child, up to a maximum of three children per family, for their educational benefits, the press release said.

Cash benefits are given every quarter, while the education benefits are given for ten months, it added.

The DSWD released P28.3 million for the beneficiaries of the 4Ps in Negros Occidental, through the Conditional Cash Transfer Program of the government.

4Ps is a five year poverty alleviation program that provides conditional cash grants to poor families to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged zero to 14 years old, the press release said.*
