Capitol buys tractors

In line with the food security program of the Negros Occidental provincial government, the province bought three Kubota farm tractors to complement the three livestock breeding centers in the province for pasture development and vegetable farming, a Capitol press release said.

The B2320 model tractors were purchased from Japan at about P945,000 each and will be used to develop pasture areas for planting of Napier and Forage grasses.

The grasses will be used to feed the animals in the three major breeding centers in Sagay City, La Carlota City and Murcia town.

The Sagay Breeding Center has an area of 40 hectares while La Granja has 303 hectares that include the Sustainable Agri-Livestock Techno Park of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños.

The breeding center in Sta. Rosa, Murcia has 159 hectares while Brgy. Cansilayan Livestock Genetic Improvement Center has 12 hectares, the press release said.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said that in raising livestock animals, it is important to provide them with good nutrition since they will be used in dairy cattle breeding and milk production projects, the press release added.*
