A college student was stabbed by one of the four pickpockets who took his cellular phone at Libertad Street in Bacolod City and later died in a hospital at about 5:30 a.m. yesterday.
The victim was identified by case investigator Police Officer 1 Arnel Deles as William Robert Ong, 18, of Regent Pearl Homes Subdivision, in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod.
Ong, a first year Hospitality Management student of La Consolacion College, succumbed to a lone stab wound on his chest while being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Deles said Ong and his companion, Paul Gonzales, had come from the Marby’s Computer station at about 4:30 a.m. when they decided to rest in a nearby eatery while waiting for a jeepney.
A trisikad driver, whose name the police withheld, claimed that he saw the four suspects follow Ong and Gonzales. He added that when the two fell asleep, the suspects frisked Ong.
Ong awoke and confronted the suspect, whose companion started mauling Ong and then one of them stabbed him on the chest, took his cellular phone and fled, going towards Libertad Public Market, the trisikad driver also told the police.
He also described the suspects as not more than 18 years old.
Station 6 commander Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo said the security guard of Marby’s Computer station told them that the suspects frequently play online games in the establishment.
Gentoleo said Bacolod City Police Office Director Senior Supt. Celestino Guara has ordered a thorough investigation on the case.
Mary Grace Ong, the victim’s mother, said her son had asked permission from his father on Thursday night and told him that he will be late in coming home as he is going to play online games.
Ong said her husband allowed him to go but told him that this should be the last time he will be playing online games.*APN
