The National Committee on Dramatic Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Performance Laboratory, Inc., will present TANGHAL 5: The 5th National University Theater Festival on February 15-18, 2011 in Bacolod City with the University of St. La Salle, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, West Negros University and Teatrokon: West Visayas Theater Network.
The festival will feature the best performances of university theater companies all over the country and is anchored on the theme “Dula ng Kabataan Tungo Sa Mapagpalayang Edukasyon”, a press release from the organizers said.
The main objective of the festival is to engage theater as a tool for empowering the youth on issues such as governance, environment, gender, history and heritage, globalization and cultural identity and the Millennium Development Goals.
The festival components are festival showcase – staging of the best works from the university – based theaters coming from major regions of the country; international guest performance – theater groups from Cambodia will perform during the festival; fringe performances 7 – 30 minutes performances as parallel activities for the festival showcase; workshops – specific areas in theater will be conducted by experienced and respected theater practitioners. Community activities/outreach – extension activities such as workshops and performances to selected communities; interactive forum – the audience and guests are encourage to interact with the performing groups; conference/consultation - at the end of the festival, a conference among the delegates will be held to discuss the theater aesthetics as experienced in the performances; and an exhibit – to feature the flagship projects of the NCCA Committee on Dramatic Arts highlighting, the Tanghal: University Theater Festival in the past for years, the press release said.

Ubaldo elected NPC president
Aksyon Radyo anchorman Elmer Ubaldo was elected president of the Negros Press Club unopposed Saturday in Bacolod City.
Jose Lizael Lampines of Sunshine Channel won as vice president with 47 votes against Henceboy Cestina who got 28 votes out of 81 votes cast.
Elected secretary was Chrysee Samillano of DAILY STAR while elected treasurer was Lorena Martinez of SM-Bacolod. Both were unopposed.
Dolores Epacta of the Negros Weekly won as auditor with 42 votes against Arnold Diaz of Bombo Radyo who got 24 votes.
The winning members of the Board of Directors were Arman Toga of Negros Daily Bulletin with 63 votes, Elsie Jolingan of Sunshine Channel – 47, Annie Calderon of GMA – 45, Ranie Azue of Panay News – 35, and Boy Ciocon of DYRL – 31.*CGS
