San Miguel Beer booked a seat in the finals after escaping with an 89-86 Game Six victory over sister team Barangay Ginebra in the semifinals of the PBA All-Filipino Cup last night at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen got the needed boost from Arwind Santos, Jay Washington and Alex Cabagnot, who delivered the crucial points, to arrange a titular showdown against Talk ‘N Text which tamed B B-Meg Ace Derby, 4-2, in another semifinals series.
Noting that they always had a close game against Ginebra, coach Ato Agustin said he told the Beermen to simply focus on the game. Entering the finals against TNT, he said he is happy to be in the championship round in his first coaching job with San Miguel.
Santos led San Miguel with 25 points, while Dondon Hontiveros scored 17 markers, and Washington and Cabagnot delivered 12 and 11 points each.
The game could have been decided in overtime had JC Intal’s three-pointer went in but the shot failed to go in as the final buzzer sounded.
