SINULOG
Kabankalan eyed as center
 for trade, banking -- Zayco

BY LISA GAPAC

Mayor Isidro Zayco said yesterday that trade, banking, and education will be the  paths  Kabankalan City will take to compete with other cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental.

Zayco said the 35th Sinulog Festival was a success in bringing in foreign tourists from European and Asian countries and visitors from  neighboring cities and  towns.

The 10-day celebration highlighted local band presentations, fireworks display competition, various sports activities like water rafting, Hara Sang Negros, and the tribal competition, he said.

More than 5,000 people flocked to the city football field witnessing and celebrating the festival, Zayco said Kabankalan tourism is in the right track.

Establishments and investments are also coming in that provide jobs and income to the city. The airport construction is ongoing and this is a local initiative that is locally funded by the city government and the province, he  said.

Zayco said he is hopeful that the project will contribute and bring in more tourists to Kabankalan and supply more jobs to people, he added.

ABS-CBN stars Erich Gonzales, Carlo Aquino,  AJ Perez, and Jason Abalos also celebrated the festival with  rock band jamming with Rocksteddy.

Meanwhile, Hara Sang Negros winner Joanne Carla Saad said she wants to become an advocate of environment preservation.  Saad hails from Dumaguete City and a student of  Engineering at Silliman University.*LTG
