Golf club employee
trimming tree strangled

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A man died on the spot when he was strangulated by the rope he used while trimming the branches of a 20-foot tall pine tree in the Marapara Golf and Country Club compound in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City Saturday.

Killed was Ferdinand Blanco, 22, of Purok Pinetree in Brgy. Bata, a casual employee of the MGCC, Station 3 chief, Insp. Jose Mulleta said yesterday.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Roy Berreña showed that Blanco had climbed the tree at about 11 a.m. to trim its branches.

Mulleta said Blanco tied the rope to the branch he was cutting and pulled it. However, the branch fell and hit his nape, and the rope attached to it strangulated him causing his immediate death.

Employees of the Marapara golf club who saw the accident sought the help of the Amity rescue group to retrieve the body of Blanco, that was already hanging from the tree, Mulleta said.

The body was brought to the Alisbo Funeral Homes at Lacson Street in Bacolod City, he also said.*APN
