DOST trains 60 workers

The Negros Occidental Department of Science and Technology trained 60 workers and management personnel of Tumandok Crafts Industries,  Bago City, Thursday, on the principles of workplace management to increase production and  self-discipline, provincial DOST director Allan Francis Dara-ug said yesterday.

The principles of sorting, systematizing, sweeping, sanitizing, and self-discipline were discussed to improve productivity, organization, and waste elimination, Dara-ug said.

The 5S principles allowmanagement to arrangematerials from thosethey constantly use to those they don’t use. It also teaches workers to create functional storage, organizational management, and easy workflow, he said.

Dara-ug said regular cleaning also prevents equipment and machine deterioration. Workplace safety is also important to prevent accidents and fast material recovery, he added.

The principles are neither complicated nor new to the workers but they have to apply and make use of the ideas provided to them to increase sales and revenues, he said.

An organized management and safe workplace will result to greater patronage from their clients and stakeholders, he added.

DOST specialists Naomi Cossette Luis and Shiela Oberio of the Cleaner Products Technology Management Program conducted the training, Dara-ugsaid. *LTG
