After emerging number one in the fourth quarter performance evaluation rating of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office last year, police officers in Bago City opened this year with a series of visitations to the 24 barangays in the city, in order to bring the police closer to the community, a Bago police press release said.
Led by Chief Insp. Rico Santotome Jr., acting city police chief, policemen visited residents of Barangay Pacol and met with local officials led by Barangay Captain Rogelio Canag.
A dialog with watchmen, tricycle drivers, teachers and pupils in the elementary level as well as other members of he community was also conducted.
Topics discussed during the "Pulis sa Barangay" activity were women's and children's rights, traffic and road safety concerns, the local PNP's campaign against all forms of criminal acts, and the "Text-A-Crime" project of Bago City police station, the press release said.
The Bago City PNP bested San Carlos City PNP in the quarterly rating of NOPPO, among the 12 cities and 19 towns province-wide, for the period October-December 2010, the press release added.*

10 THOS finalists
battle it out today
A total of 36 nominees in the high school category and 30 in the college level underwent preliminary screening for the Search for The Outstanding Students 2011by the JCI - Bacolod (Bacolod Jaycees), at the Government Center in Bacolod City, a Jaycees press release said.
After a thorough examination of the documentation submitted by the nominee, and a panel interview conducted by organizers, 10 in each category were chosen as finalists.
High school category finalists are Andrea Isadora Chua of St. John’s Institute, Frances Zyra Mae Cordova - St. Scholastica’s Academy, Mark Joseph Despi - Domingo Lacson National High School, Cleth Dizon - La Consolacion College-Bacolod Integrated School, Nobelle Ann Escalona - Bacolod City National High School, Paulyne Kate Genson - St. Scholastica’s Academy, Ma. Raisa Dy Pandan - University of St. La Salle Integrated School, Jason Sy – SJI , Ace Nikko Yao - Bacolod Tay Tung High School, and Melan Anthony Yap - SJI.
Finalists in the college level are Kathreen Alcantara - USLS, Sara Kathrin Ariñas - Colegio San Agustin, Gi-ann Esgana - Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Charmaine Hilado – CSA-B, Julius Juen – USLS, Wilson Ledesma Jr. – Riverside College, Rey Emanuelle Mirasol – CSA-B, Elsie Shrine Papong – Riverside College, Johara Louise Tercio - La Consolacion College, and Richelle Verdeprado - University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, the press release said.
The finalists will move on to the final round today at the MassKara Halls of the Government Center. Only three awardees for each category will be selected and proclaimed as The Outstanding Students for 2011 during the Awarding Ceremonies on February 5, the press release added.*
