With both squads aiming for a head start in the series, the opening salvo is expected to showcase the strength and power of the Beermen and the Texters which carried them to the finals.
It will be the start of a serious ballgame, Talk n Text coach Chot Reyes said, while coach Ato Agustin is just as eager to start the battle.
With an identical 16-5 win-loss card en route to the championship series, the Beermen and the texters had established their dominating force in the league this season.
Entering the finals, San Miguel Beer hopes to end a 10-year title drought in the all-Filipino tournament while the Texters are itching to get their hands on that trophy which eluded them in the last two conferences.
Known for their offensive firepower, both teams are expected to play tough defense with the Beermen tapping the force of its frontcourt men led by Jay Washington, Arwind Santos, Danny Ildefonso, Danny Seigle and Dorian Pena.
The Tropang Texters, on the other hand, has its reliable and consistent backcourt power courtesy of Jimmy Alapag, Jason Castro, Ryan Reyes and Larry Fonacier.
Pundits are expecting the Beermen to execute a methodical halfcourt game while it will be more ball movements for the Talk n Text.
But for Reyes and Agustin, the game will be decided on who makes the shot in the end.
With his consistent and impressive record, Alapag will be a marked man for TNT, leaving Harvey Carey and Ali Peek the opportunity to bail out the team in crucial plays.
For the Beermen, all eyes will be on Washington, who proved his worth in the team’s semifinal showdown against Ginebra.*NAB
