Mayor, vendors tackle
improvement of markets

Mayor Evelio Leonardia met with market vendors Thursday to discuss the improvement of the  three major markets of the city – the Libertad, Burgos and Central markets, a City Hall press release said yesterday.

Discussed were cleanliness, traffic obstruction, disciplinary measures, election of market vendors’ association officers, unpaid rentals due the city, and even possible loan extensions, it said.

Councilor Carl Lopez, chair of the SP Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, discussed the possibility of extending loans to the vendors provided they “get their acts together.”

Councilor Dindo Ramos, chair of SP Committee on Transportation and Traffic, discussed the orderliness of traffic without illegal obstruction for the protection of both commuters and consumers.

He warned that his committee, when “pushed to the wall”, has no other recourse but to discipline violators accordingly, the press release said.*
