Task Force Kasaligan is ensuring the safety and security of two drug suspects turned state witnesses after the recent successful apprehension of two big-time illegal drug suppliers in Negros Oriental.
NBI special agent and Task Force team leader Miguel Dungog said the two suspects turned state witness will be properly secured against any possible harm.
Cassandra Corios, 18, and Farell Catan, 25, volunteered to give credible information to authorities that resulted in the arrest of the Cebu-based supplier Edgar Tan and Jessie Misamis from Canday-ong, Calindagan in Dumaguete City.
Dungog said Catan and Corrios were instrumental in the arrests of the two big-time suspects of illegal drugs, which will qualify them to avail of section 33 of Republic Act No. 9165, as state witness.
Catan and Corrios were both apprehended for violation of section 11 of Republic Act 9165, for the use of illegal drugs.
Dungog said the parents of Cassandra Corios agreed to submit their daughter to a drug rehabilitation in Cebu. Catan will also undergo drug rehabilitation in Dumaguete City after he can post the bail bond for violation of section 11 of RA 9165.
Corios said she wanted to have a new life after rehabilitation, away from the use of illegal drugs. She also regretted being hooked into illegal drugs which she said gave her family headache and problems.
Catan also regretted having been involved in the illegal activity. He said the illegal drug has not given him good benefits because his life is already at risk including his family.
Catan is the son of Dumaguete City Councilor Esperidion Catan.
Corios and Catan challenged the young people to stop using drugs and save their future against the vice.*MA
