Degamo to prioritize
disaster programs

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has assured that his administration will give priority in the implementation of programs and projects in line with the province’s disaster risk reduction and management plan.

Degamo said he was meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, formerly the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council, to discuss measures that can be immediately put in place to counter the effects of climate change.

He has named Angelo Tiongson as the new PRDRRM coordinator in lieu of retired police colonel Nick Noble, who is now the provincial jail warden.

Degamo said funds have been allocated for the province’s disaster response and management program, and it is only a matter of time before activities lined up in the plan shall be implemented.

He also promised that his office will also establish the much needed operations center, and provide the necessary equipment in responding to natural and man-made disasters.

Capitol has also set aside funding for the procurement of K-9 sniffing dogs, amounting to P600,000 and equipment for specially trained bomb squad police personnel.*JFP
