Ex-constable shoots
tenant, apprehended

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A retired constable of the defunct Philippine Constabulary is in hot water for allegedly shooting his tenant twice in the stomach with a .45 caliber pistol yesterday morning in Upper Lukewright, Poblacion 2, Dumaguete City.

Reports reaching the police showed that retired constable Teofilo Alviola, 64, tried to escape after shooting a certain Jun Salvoro, married, resident of Batinguel, Dumaguete, following a heated discussion and altercation with the suspect.

Police auxiliary member Oliver Villegas, who was on foot patrol, was at the vicinity when the alleged shooting incident took place and responded to a call for help by the wife of the victim.

Villegas tailed the suspect who boarded a motorcycle and subdued him at the highway going south, while the traffic was heavy with the assistance of another chief tanod of Barangay Tabuctubig identified as Irene Lerion.

Confiscated from Alviola was the .45 caliber pistol with two magazines and ammunition.

Initial investigation showed that the retired constable was irked about the noise created by the couple renting a room in their house every time they  have discussions.

The report said that the suspect allegedly took a .45 caliber pistol and shot the victim twice in the stomach. Salvoro is recuperating at the Holy Child Hospital.*JG
