NegOcc  tops WV list of
most crimes in 2010

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City topped the list of areas in Western Visayas with the most number of crimes against persons and property, respectively, in 2010.

Records of the Police Regional Office 6 showed that there were 1,090 crimes against persons reported in Negros Occidental, while crimes against property were 2,623 in Bacolod City, Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, in his report to Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director, said yesterday.

Of the 1,090 crimes against persons in Negros Occidental, physical injuries accounted for 681, murder – 182, rape – 139, and 88 for homicide.

Police records also showed that Negros Occidental had the most number of murder and homicide cases, compared to the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod, and the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Guimaras.

Bacolod City also recorded the most number of robbery cases with 638, on top of 1,944 incidents of theft. However, the city of Iloilo surpassed Bacolod City in the occurrence of theft cases with 2,174, and incidents of physical injuries with 796.

The province of Iloilo also posted the most number of rape cases with 141, followed by Negros Occidental with 139, Antique – 45, Bacolod City -  42, Capiz – 25, Aklan – 24, Guimaras – 18, and Iloilo City – 17.

Based on the total index crimes reported in 2010 for both crimes against persons and property, Iloilo City topped the list with 3,490, Bacolod City – 3,114, with 2,322 in Negros Occidental, PRO 6 records also showed.

On the other hand, Guimaras registered the lowest volume in the number of crimes against persons and property with 75.*GPB
