Improve police reputation
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

CAMP MARTIN DELGADO, Iloilo – Good performance and right performance of duty.

This was stressed yesterday by Region 6 police director, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, to all Western Visayas policemen and women, amid allegations that some of their colleagues are involved in criminal activities.

Asking them to double their efforts in the delivery of basic police services and improve the PNP reputation, Querol said “If we can do that, we can bring ourselves closer to the people.”

The image of the PNP has been tainted recently with accusations of alleged involvement in kidnapping-for-ransom activities, murder, rape, and the illegal drug trade, among others.

Querol, who led the pinning of ranks of newly-promoted police superintendents, including Santiago Rapiz – Escalante police chief, Alexander Munoz of Hinigaran, Alex Dimaculangan and Alexander Ermeo of Bacolod City Police Office, said the PNP is now in a trying situation because of the alleged involvement of some policemen in criminal activities.

In Negros Occidental, two policemen are now in hot water, with one of them accused of molestation, and another facing drug-related charges.*GPB
