An inmate of the Negros Occidental Provincial Jail in Bacolod City was stabbed to death by two of his fellow prisoners last night in a fight over water, while another was found dead in his sleep yesterday morning.

The NOPJ deaths occurred as the provincial government has began transferring inmates to the newly-built more than P100 million Negros Occidental District Jail in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City.

Stabbed to death at about 8:20 last night was Irish Enrile, 28, of Valladolid who was facing homicide charges, Lt. Dionisio Silva, Provincial Jail Warden, said.moremoremore

Guards enter Bacan,
demolition hit

Task Force Mapalad agrarian reform beneficiaries installed at Hacienda Bacan in Isabela, Negros Occidental, yesterday complained thatRivulet Agro Industrial Corp.guards who entered the farm Sunday afternoon demolished shacks and fencesthey had built on the land awarded to them by the Department of Agrarian Reform last week.

Of the 68 beneficiaries installed on 148.2219 has. on June 28, 43 are members of the Negros Occidental Federation of Farmers Association, and 25 are from Task Force Mapalad.

Edna Sobrecanay, TFM spokesperson, saidarmed blue guards on board a pickup entered the farm at about 4 p.m. Sunday and destroyed the shacks and fences they had built.moremoremore

ERC to hold hearing  
at Ceneco Thursday

The Energy Regulatory Commission will conduct a hearing on the application of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative for approval of emergency capital expenditure project in accordance with Republic Act 9136, and asked for the issuance of provisional authority, at the CENECO main office in Bacolod City on Thursday.

In its application, CENECO asked that, while the hearing has not taken place yet, ERC will approve provisionally its emergency capital project to construct a 5 MVA Silay substation in Hda. Panaogao in Silay City, Negros Occidental, that it be allowed to implement the project and, after the hearing, the proposed emergency capital expenditure be permanently approved.moremoremore
