Hospital staff
plant trees in DSB

Members of the administration and department managers of the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center planted tree seedlings in Brgy. Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, recently, a press release from the group said. 

The 36 administrators, managers and support staff planted 250 trees supplied by the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation through Dave Castor.

Tree-planting is part of the social responsibility program of BAMC in response to calls for measures to arrest climate change, the press release added.*

‘Adlaw sa Suba’
hold in Sagay

Sagay City, Negros Occidental, held the “Adlaw sa Suba 2011” to raise awareness and appreciation of the  Himoga-an River, recently. 

Now on its third year, Adlaw sa Suba continues to conduct river clean-ups, tree planting, and a piknik sa suba, a press release from Sagay City said.

Participants were barangays Fabrica, Paraiso, Himoga-an Baybay, and Barangay Paraiso. Partner agencies were Sagay Marine Reserve, Solid Waste Management Council, OISCA-Sagay Chapter, Department of Education Division of Sagay City, Sagay City PNP, 62nd Philippine Army Unifier Battalion, Lopez Sugar Central Inc., Sagay Rescue, DILG, Bureau of Parole and Probation and Buhay Dagat Snorkling Guides of Sagay Association.

This year, the challenge for the Palumba sa Suba was raised with the first Himoga-an Adventure Palumba sa Suba Race Relay Contest, comprising of Carabao race at Carabao Island, three Banca Race challenge legs and with their muse on the final banca leg, swimming and running race relay. 

Vice Mayor Kent Javelosa thanked everyone for their support  and urged them to continue preserving the Himoga-an River by not throwing garbage into it and ensuring that the trees planted are watered and maintained, the press release added.*

IN SAN CARLOS
Environment week marked

The San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, government declared the fourth week of June as the city’s Environment Week through SP Resolution Number 11-169, in line with the celebration of Provincial Environment Week.

The first localized Environment Week was celebrated recently, a press release from San Carlos said.

Spearheaded by the Solid Waste Management Office, the week-long activities included river clean-up, exhibit display at City Auditorium, poster/slogan making contest among elementary schools, trash to craft contest among secondary schools, TWG Waste Water meeting,  launching of “no plastic day program” at the public market, environmental film showings, coastal clean-up, undersea water clean-up and tree-planting, the press release added.*

Gomez-Felix wedding
set at California church

The St. Denis Catholic Church in S. Diamond Bar, California, U.S.A. will be the setting for the wedding rites of Jose Alfonso “Joey” Gomez and Kecia Anne Felix on July 23, 2011.

Kecia is the daughter of Marilyn and David Felix of the Philippines and Mexico, while Joey is the son of Lourdes and Allan Gomez of La Castellana, Binalbagan and Bacolod City.

Both families are now based in Riverside City, California.

The principal sponsors will be Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bisnar, Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Contreras, Mr. and Mrs. Rodrigo Ganzon, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gomez, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Obrero, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Verde.

The maid of honor will be Bernadette Bohol and best man will be Christopher Ado.  Diana Fuentes, Espy Guerrero, Elizabeth Marquez, Cheryll Reed, and Leticia Gutierez will be the bridesmaids, while Raul Occena, Mark Gabriel, Pierre Macaso, Dwayne Pink and Christian Gomez will be the groomsmen.
