DLNHS softbelles start
World Series fund drive

The Domingo Lacson National High School Juniors softball team has a good chance of winning in the World Series next month, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

The problem, he said, is the lack of funds to support the girls who will represent the country in the August 14-20 Little League World Series Juniors Division in Kirkland, Washington.

Marañon appealed yesterday to big businesses, private firms, congressmen, and local government units in the province to contribute funds for the DLNHS softbelles for their World Series stint.

Negros offers to host
another Azkals game

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the provincial government will lobby with the Philippine Football Federation for the hosting of another game of the Philippine men’s football team, the Azkals, at the Panaad Park and Sports Stadium.

He said four more floodlights from the Paglaum Sports Complex will be set up soon at the Panaad Stadium to improve the lightings and prepare the Stadium for hosting another international football event.

“We are very much willing to host an Azkals match and other international events at the Panaad. Besides, we have better facilities than Rizal Stadium to host an international football tournament,” Marañon said.

leads Alumni basketball

The Bacolod Tay Tung High School junior varsity scored a 100-91 victory over Team 7 to register its third win and remain unbeaten in the 10-squad BTTHS Inter Alumni Basketball Tournament at Po Hang Gym.

The Blue Dragons earlier routed Team 8, 73-49, and blew away guest participant Team 9, 100-74, to take the lead in the team standings.

Placing behind the varsity team are Teams 1, 3, 5 and 6 with an identical two wins and one loss card.
