| 80 join read-along at SM
About 80 children from public and private schools listened in fascination as three fathers, including local celebrity newscaster Ryan Gamboa, read them stories at SM City Bacolod yesterday morning.
The SM Supermalls Committee on Youth and Children’s Welfare read-along in Bacolod was part of National Children’s Book Day, held simultaneously with 40 other SM malls in the Philippines and China.
The first reader was businessman and father of three Rafael "Raffy" Catalan who read the story “Laruang Papel” written by Genaro Gojo Cruz and illustrated by Jomike Tejido.
The children made paper airplanes in different colors as Catalan read them the story of paper toys.
Jose Froilan Udarbe, BDO Hilado Branch head in Bacolod and a father of two, read the story “Isa Dalawa Tatlo Mayron Akong Regalo” written by Christine Bellen and illustrated by Jason Dy.
The last reader was Gamboa, ABS-CBN anchorman and father of two, who read Dr. Jose Rizal’s “Ang Pagong at ang Matsing” in commemoration of the national hero’s 150th birth anniversary.
The three readers said they had their best read-along practice reading on their own children.
SM Foundation also donated 500 books to the Bacolod City Library Hub which caters to 46 public schools in Bacolod.
The event was held in partnership with the Inquirer Read-Along, Department of Education, the National Book Development Board, Vibal Publishing, BDO Foundation and SM Foundation.*
